Tsukiji Fish Market | Tokyo, Japan | Crystal Lynn Collins
One of my most favorite days in Tokyo was spent wandering the Tsukiji Fish Market. The alleyways outside the market were lined with shops selling just about anything you could think of. We ducked into a cute little coffee shop for lattes, ate sushi for breakfast, watched a young man roasting chestnuts, picked out pottery to bring home and got totally lost in the chaos. Inside the market was fascinating, and quite a bit heartbreaking. Anything you can imagine in the ocean, you could find in a bin for sale. The smell was overwhelming. The floor was soaking wet, sticky, and stained pinkish red from the constant flow of blood. Truly and incredible experience to walk through and observe the largest and busiest fish market in the world.
